Response to Ann and Michelle's Speeches
Today in class we watched two speeches. One from Ann Romney and another from Michelle Obama. Both speeches were very appealing. They helped promote their husbands campaign for president through a speech about love. I think both did a great job at using ethos, pathos, and logos. I knew at the beginning of Ann Romney's speech she was a credible speaker, when she told us she was going to speak from her heart. Another ethos she told us was how she has been around the US. The next part of Ann's speech that caught my attention was her use of statistics or her logos. When she said "moms work harder and hold the country together" I totally agreed. She also talked about how her husband Mitt Romney reduced the unemployment rate in Michigan to four percent during the budget crisis. The most affective part of Ann's speech was when she used pathos. She kept the audiences attention through out the whole thing by many aspects. She was very excited the entire time, and she was speaking from a woman's point of view. Although Ann did a great job with conveying ethos, pathos, and logos Michelle Obama did as well. She represented her ethos by sharing a story about a blind soldier. I didn't hear much more credibility than that. One thing that Michelle did do a good job with was her pathos. She kept the audience awake with her talk about dignity, decency, honesty and integrity. Another thing that caught my attention was when she was talking about military families and unconditional love. Although she did a good job with pathos, not so much with logos. The only logos I heard was when she was talking about her dad being very sick but still being committed and how if we had more men like that the world would be a better place. Comparing these two speeches I personally think that Ann Romney did a better job at conveying ethos, pathos, and logos. By doing these three things well she kept the audiences attention better than Michelle.
