The New Yorker
In this article "Priced to Sell is free the future?" by Malcom Gladwell they talk about whether articles should be free or not. In my opinion, articles that are free are used more often than ones people have to pay for. Also, many people will contribute to this by donating money to those who are writing the article. I find it odd that the people writing the articles are not getting paid but the people selling the articles are getting paid. I think I would be willing to pay for more of these articles if the primary source was getting the money. Even if the price isn't very high many people are not willing to pay for something they may only use once. It is like television many people don't want to pay for television now a days because it is expensive and the money isn't even going directly to the actors supplying the entertainment. The money is going to the company's broad casting the show or movie. Another main point in this article was the use of wiki. Wiki is not very credible in my eyes but of course people are going to use these articles they are FREE and are the most information. One example I think of is high school students. Many have to write major papers and cant afford to pay a website to use their article so they use wiki articles and their paper isn't as credible as it could be if they had access to real studies. As I'm writing this review i think of how this impacts me and my college career. I have many papers that i need real research and tests for but they have to be credible. If i didn't pay my college tuition i wouldn't be able to afford more money for articles. All in all, I believe society would not try to cheat the system and would gain more knowledge if articles were free.
